Today I finally found out what freckles are. I have been watching mine get larger in number and darker in colour all summer and finally remembered to Google why. They are spots of melanin (skin pigment) produced my melanocytes (pigment making cells) in your skin, in reaction to sunlight. Some are permanent, while others will fade when the sun hibernates for a while. That is why darker skinned people don't get them... they are just one big freckle... I kinda like that idea!
